The active ingredient is cedar which is deadly to pests but harmless to humans, animals and the environment. Just think of cedar chests and closets where you never see a bug... That is because if a bug ventures into a cedar enclosure, it will die. But to us it is merely a pleasant, natural aroma. Greenbug has harnessed Nature's ingredient and put it in a convenient spray form for many uses. Go to www.greenbugallnatural.com to find out more!

Hello and thank you for your interest in Greenbug! You are absolutely right about the toxicity of the spot-drop treatments as they are basically a poison running through your pets' blood stream. There are studies that show these treatments shorten a pet's life by 25%! Greenbug is an excellent solution that takes care of the dreaded sand fleas (also known as no-see-ems, sand gnats, black flies, etc. depending on where you live) as well as mosquitoes, ticks and fleas. You must apply Greenbug for pets every third day or so to make sure the Greenbug is present, but it is completely safe - actually food-grade safe ingredients - and cannot harm your pet in the least. That is what I use now that I know how dangerous the other options are! It is simple and it works!

Hello and thank you for your interest in Greenbug! Yes, Greenbug will kill rat mites and their eggs! The best solution for that is to use Greenbug for People in a fogger as it will penetrate deep into the crevices and nooks to do the job. Follow instructions for bed bugs on the Solutions Page which is accessed on our Greenbug home page by pressing the green bar in the upper left corner that reads "Eliminate Pests Now".

I live in Panama City Beach. I have two large dogs and we have what are called sand fleas here...I have always wondered about the toxicity of advantix and the like. I think my dogs act a little different after Ive put there flea treatment on them. Im considering switching to something more natural.

Hello Kay,
You can absolutely use Greenbug for Pets instead of Frontline and I highly recommend that you do! The spot-drop treatments are very toxic as they are neurotoxins running through your pet's veins at a level supposedly strong enough to kill pests yet weak enough to not harm the dog. But exactly when is a poison in the bloodstream ever safe?! I use the Greenbug for Pets on my doggie and we live in a world of many ticks. As long as there is the slightest fragrance of Greenbug in the fur, ticks will not come near. As my doggie romps in the woods frequently, we treat her probably every third day or so right as she walks out the door. I prefer to spray it into my hand and then rub it on her feet, underbelly and muzzle.
We do not have any samples, unfortunately and our margins are so slim it is hard to justify giving Greenbug away. We did a non-scientific study and found that those who received something free perceived it to have about the same value - which was nothing. Ironically, those who paid for it considered it far more valuable! So the only time we give away free samples is to seriously potential retail outlets who want to test it out before they sell it so they can say with confidence how wonderful it is.
Thanks so much for promoting it up in your area! Perhaps there is a store that may be interested in carrying it - that makes it a lot easier for people to try it when they can buy it close by instead of having to order online, pay shipping, etc. If you think of any place in particular, let us know!

Hi Louise,
It is 79 here in NH. Ticks are already a real problem for my dog...is there anyway I can use GreenBug instead of Fronline (which is a neurotoxin) to help repel them?
Also, do you have any small free samples I can give to my friends. I always mention it and tell people to go to the website but feel a small sample would make sure they try it and order some.

Hello Jiri -

Greenbug products are non-toxic to a broad spectrum of species which includes being harmless to mammals, amphibians, crustaceans, fish, reptiles, birds, and beneficial pollinators such as butterflies and honey bees. However, cedar is deadly to smell-driven insects which is why you never see bugs in a cedar chest or cedar closet. Similarly, it is used for siding to prevent termites and used in animal bedding. The aroma of cedar to these unwanted pests is like ammonia to humans - it will cause them to do everything they can to get away and if they are not able to and are engulfed in cedar fumes, they will die.

In comparison, synthetic pesticides are known toxins and are intended to poison pests by compromising something reproductive, digestive, neurological, etc. These same poisons can affect humans and other desirable creatures. Greenbug is deadly to targeted pests - but the targeting has been done by Mother Nature, not scientists.

Hope that helps!

Cedar is native to the areas of the United States where deer habitats are found. I cannot speak for other parts of the world but I do know that the same species of cedar also grows in the UK.
